Job Summary

 

The Junior Research Technician/Senior Project Associate will support the implementation of agriculture extension activities under the International Rice Research Institute’s (IRRI) project. The role involves operating agricultural machinery, supporting field demonstrations, assisting in farmer training, collecting field data, and coordinating with farmers, FPCs, and local partners to ensure effective project delivery.

 

About the Hiring Arrangement

 

This recruitment is being conducted by Starshield Group, a major agriculture development project implemented in collaboration with IRRI. The selected candidates will be engaged on the payroll of Starshield Group and will be deployed to support field-level activities under the IRRI-supported project.

 

Please note that while the role will involve working closely with IRRI project teams and stakeholders, the employment, compensation, and administrative management will be handled solely by Starshield Group.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Purpose

  • Set up, operate, and maintain seed, pre-&-post-harvest machinery and implements, ensuring their proper calibration, safe use, storage and readiness for field demonstrations and project activities.
  • Provide hands-on support in implementing field activities across various project objectives, including implementing demonstrations, data collection, crop management tasks, and coordination with field teams and local partners.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting farmer trainings, field days, and demonstrations facilitated by partner organizations, ensuring smooth logistics, preparation of materials, and effective engagement with participants.
  • Support community mobilization activities by coordinating with local leaders, encouraging farmer participation, and facilitating awareness on project interventions and technologies.
  • Engage with youth and farmers to promote the adoption and purchase of new agricultural machines by demonstrating their benefits, explaining operational requirements, and addressing common concerns.

Engagement

  • Engage closely with farmers, farmer producer groups (FPGs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), and local field teams to ensure tasks are carried out efficiently and according to protocols.
  • Provide hands-on support to contract workers, local partners, and extension staff during demonstrations, farmer trainings, and field days, facilitating smooth operations and effective knowledge transfer to participants.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and project staff to ensure timely procurement and uninterrupted field operations.

Delivery

  • Assist in imparting technical information and agronomic best practices to farmers, FPCs, and community groups, ensuring clear communication and practical guidance on crop production, seed use, and machinery operations.
  • Support the collection of data from on-farm experiments and field demonstrations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established protocols.
  • Record, organize, and encode basic field data for reporting and analysis, maintaining proper documentation to support project monitoring, evaluation, and research outputs.

Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time

 

Eligibility Criteria

 

Qualification:

  • Intermediate with 2–3 years of relevant experience

 OR

  • Graduate with 1–2 years of relevant experience

Skills & Experience (Mandatory):

  • Experience in agriculture field operations and data collection
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word & Excel)
  • Experience in rice-wheat cropping system production preferred
  • Good coordination and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel and work in field conditions
  • Knowledge of smart mobile apps for data survey and data recording
  • Knowledge on agri machinery
  • Community mobilization and Work with Farmers group/FPCs
  • The applicants must have a two-wheeler vehicle and license with them
