The NCPEDP Javed Abidi Fellow will undertake a one-year leadership and advocacy journey focused on advancing disability inclusion through evidence-based research, policy engagement, and community collaboration. The Fellowship empowers youth with disabilities to design and implement their own advocacy interventions, build partnerships with local institutions and policymakers, and contribute to systemic policy transformation while developing into future-ready leaders in the disability rights movement.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Identify a thematic area of disability inclusion in consultation with communities and civil society organisations
  • Narrow down a focused intervention area within the selected theme
  • Design and conduct research-based studies to generate evidence on inclusion gaps and best practices
  • Develop neutral research reports and policy briefs for policymakers
  • Build relationships with community members to validate findings and gather endorsements
  • Engage with government officials, legislators, private sector representatives, and key stakeholders to advocate policy reforms
  • Collaborate with mentors and partner organisations for strategic guidance and feedback
  • Participate in networking platforms and advocacy forums
  • Support media and communication efforts to strengthen advocacy campaigns
  • Document progress, transformation stories, and key learnings in collaboration with NCPEDP

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum matriculation qualification
  • Age between 18–28 years at the time of application
  • Must be a Person with Disability as defined under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016
  • Preference for applicants from Northern states (as per programme phase)
  • Prior experience working with rural communities, urban slums, marginalised groups, digital accessibility initiatives, or policy reform organisations (internships included)
  • Experience in artistic, fictional, or research-based documentation
  • Intermediate proficiency in English or Hindi
  • Strong interest in advocacy, policy engagement, and disability inclusion
  • Ability to collaborate with mentors, institutions, and policymakers
